Cruise Ships
At what point will the ships actually become incorporated cities with permanent residents and school systems? I mean... this one even has a Central Park!

Dead Man Walking
My daughter - a freshman - is in the upcoming high school's fall play. They're doing DEAD MAN WALKING. I've never read the book, never seen the play -written by Tim Robbins - but I thought the movie was pretty great.
But what's exciting about this... on opening night... the author of the book, Sister Helen Prejean, is going to be in attendance, and afterwards will be doing a Q and A along with a book signing. I'm looking forward to it, definitely going to get a signed book to read.

Best Friends... Dogs are Awesome!
Lily was a puppy when she was struck down by a condition that caused her eyelashes to grown into her eyeballs, damaging them beyond repair. At the time, she was living with seven-year-old Great Dane, Maddison. Maddison knew instantly that Lily was blind and took her under her wing.
Since then, the two have been inseparable:
‘Maddison is Lily’s guide dog. If they are out and about, for the majority of the time Maddison will lead and Lily will walk nearly touching her so she knows where to go. It’s lovely to watch. Maddison is always looking out for her. They curl up together to go to sleep as well.'
Sadly Lily and Maddison's owners were unable to look after the dogs and gave them to the Dogs Trust Re-Homing center in Shrewsbury, UK. The owner of the center wouldn't dare separate the best friends.
'The two Great Danes come as a package. There's no way they should ever be separated. I'm sure they will find a loving home soon.'

Character development... gone wrong!
I went to see DOLPHIN TALE over the weekend with my 7 year old daughter. She LOVED it... it's her favorite movie (until she sees another one).
I thought it was okay... I was hoping for better. The problem, at least for me, was in two of the main characters. Both of these characters changed in a way I never saw coming and I couldn't find believable. And this really put me off. I know it's hard making a character's development seem plausible in a 300 page novel... doing it in a 2 hour movie even harder. But these two changed in ways that seemed totally obtuse. That's right... obtuse.

Nightly Visitor
I've been living in the same house for nearly 18 years now... and this is the first summer that I've ever seen a frog like this little guy. Every night, he crawls up the siding just outside the garage door to the light and eats all the bugs attracted by the glow. The frog in the picture is about two inches long, but last night we found a baby, about a 1/2 inch long. Both were a very cool camouflage green.

I Am Made of You
I'm sure many of you aren't the biggest Alice Cooper fans... but this song - I AM MADE OF YOU - from his new album WELCOME 2 MY NIGHTMARE (the sequel to his WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE album released back in 1975) is pretty eerie and cool.
It's got an ONLY WOMEN BLEED feel to it... not heavy or hard, but something more gothic or Victorian. Give it a listen and let me know what you think... I just LOVE it.

The Silhouettes
I stopped watching America's Got Talent a month ago - or so it seems... but the show is still going on! I caught a bit of Monday night's episode and was really impressed by The Silhouettes:

Cool Stuff About the Moon
"We all know the moon's not made out of green cheese, but if it were made out of barbecue spare ribs... would you eat it then?"
Seriously... NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter sent back some recent picture of the Apollo moon landings... pretty cool stuff.
The paths left by astronauts Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell on both Apollo 14 moon walks are visible in this LRO image. (At the end of the second moon walk, Shepard famously hit two golf balls.) The descent stage of the lunar module Antares is also visible.
If you want to see more of this and a video... go here...

When Breakfast Talks Back to You
While cooking my usual eggs this morning (sunny side up), I heard this weird whispering... I could have sworn it was saying, "How about some oatmeal?" And when I looked into the pan...

How Did I Miss This?
I'm not sure where I've been these passed fifteen years (the land of YA I think), but somehow I missed out on an incredible book series. The first book came out in 1996... and I'm just reading it now. And it's INCREDIBLE!!!
Back in high school (mumble, mumble years ago) I read nothing but fantasy and sci-fi... this books is already one of my favorites in the genre!

Diving Team Memories
It's been years and years since I was on my High School Diving Team, but someone dug up a video of me doing my world famous dive. I called this one "My Shoe!"

Huge Spider Web
Took these photos this morning with my cell phone, not the greatest but I still think you can see the web... it circular web had to be 3 feet across, the distance between branches at least 6 feet. A very industrial spider.
